Galette des Rois

Qui sera la nouvelle reine ou le nouveau roi du jour?
On Sunday 11th January, Live Languages French students and other local francophiles celebrated la fête des Rois, with traditional Galette and gourmandises. The lucky three who found the fève were crowned King or Queen for the day.
It was wonderful to welcome familiar faces and make new friends, and everyone embraced the challenge of speaking French for a full hour. Participants ranged in age from a gorgeous baby, to a brave 14-year-old boy, to adults in their 40s right through to their 90s — a wonderful reminder that languages truly are for all ages.

Saturday 7th June 2025 marked the start of the Affirmation weekend, to celebrate 65 years of twinning between Richmond, Fontainebleau and Konstanz. Students from 8 different Live Languages groups, plus lots of brave newbies, practised their French in the very British weather!
Ages ranged from 17 to 80+, and levels from Beginners to at least three native speakers. Everyone played the game and stuck purely to French, and chatter and laughter could be heard from all directions. As soon as the rain began, out came the awning, and the pause-café continued to ‘battre son plein’.

Galette des Rois

Qui sera la Reine ou le Roi du jour?
On Saturday 11th January, Live Languages French students and other francophiles celebrated once again La fête des Rois, with the traditional Galette and other gourmandises. Amidst convivial French conversation, laughter and refreshments, everyone met old and new friends, and practised their French. Someone even took home the crown (lovingly confectionned by my 9 year olds).

What better way to celebrate the beginning of the year than being crowned Queen or King of the Galettes?
During another successful French coffee morning – the 5th to date – students of all levels mingled over pastries, light refreshments and homemade galettes! Conversations around festivities and New Year’s resolutions (or lack thereof) filled the room. Everyone played the game and stuck to French. Bravo! A wonderful celebration of French culture and gastronomy.

La rentrée: 9 Septembre 2023
Bonjour, un croissant et un café s’il vous plaît!
To celebrate ‘La Rentrée des classes’ (though most Live Languages students continued sessions throughout the summer) our guests immersed themselves in a typical French pause-café. While enjoying French pastries such as butter croissants and pains au chocolat, students and other francophiles practised their French in the September sunshine.
